The 2025 Week 6 Restoration Works
Week 6 saw steady operations with visitor numbers up and down (although generally very busy), and preparations were underway to get ready for the upcoming school holidays.
Lets start of this weeks record with some fantastic photos taken by Volunteer Ted Hunt around Farina. I think it captures one of the reasons we all love spending time at Farina.
All the Bakery food was running out the door this week, and especially the Heavy Fruit Loaf, with production ramped up but still not meeting the growing demand. People just love the Fruit Loaf so we need to limit purchases to ensure everyone gets a loaf.
The Farina Freight Services team have been very busy often making three trips a week into Leigh Creek and Copley to collect supplies. With the upcoming school holidays there was even more freight this day.
The big event this week was the completion of the painting of NSU 62 and in particular the pushing back into the new shed which was scheduled for Saturday morning. A huge crowd of volunteers and members of the public were there and it was the culmination of a lot of work by the committee and many volunteers. There’s still signwriting to occur to the engine next season but it’s looking really good so far.
A huge thankyou needs to go to Chairman Bill Brock, Project Manager Steve Harding and rail enthusiast volunteer Rob Ball for the rail precinct works including the relocation of NSU 62 and the building of the Goods Shed. This season a team of dedicated volunteers stripped and painted NSU 62.
The Stonies were finishing off work on the Post Office, and the plan is then to move on to the Old Police Station. Here’s a few photos of the outside of the Post office.
What week would be complete without sowing some of our Farina visitors. Of the “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” we had all except the trains, unless you count the short journey taken by NSU 62. Of course most visitors arrive by automobile, however this week we had some arrive by bicycle and one family by helicopter.
