The 2025 Week 4 Restoration Works
We’re at the mid-point of the restoration program and things are running like a well oiled machine. Visitor numbers have steadied, due in part to the Birdsville track still being closed. We’re hoping that it will open in the next few weeks in the run up to school holidays.
After another successful cricket match at the start of week 4 (see separate page), Sunday morning saw the Reverend Sandra Bryson conducting the Bell memorial service and the ecumenical service. Once again we thank Doug Sprigg for flying over from Arkaroola for the service and landing at Farina.
Work continued at the Post Office, with the three Fireplaces completed and stabilisation work continuing on the higher portions of the walls.
The painting of NSU62 was progressing well with attention now on the silver stripes and other details.
This week saw some visitors arriving at Farina in style, driving a classic car for flying in a helicopter. The couple in the helicopter were from Dubbo and were given a Farina pastie by friends so through they’d drop in on the way and buy some themselves.
We were also visited this week by the groups founder, Tom Harding, who watched the cricket match and gave a talk to the volunteers around the campfire.
Like all programs, a group of volunteers went out to do some “secret men’s business” (aka collecting mulga for the underground oven).
Kerry and the team were hard at it baking up a storm in the bakery. There were a couple of quieter days but then back to being very busy.
After the hard work building Paterson’s House we aim to keep it in tip top shape, and the team were working hard putting another coat of paint on the northern wall. The northern sun hits buildings hard.
There’s something for everyone to see at Farina, as you can see from these wonderful pictures of the local Birdlife sent in by Sue Hammond. If you go for a quiet walk along the creek at Farina you can see many of our local animals and birds.
